We would like to welcome you for an outing
on the scenic Hudson River for an enjoyable
day of Striped Bass fishing.
Striped Bass fishing on the Hudson River is
best in the spring when they have entered
the waterway to spawn. The Capital District
Albany area is one of the best locations on
the River to fish for these sea run brutes.
These fish make their run up from the
Atlantic Ocean and are halted at the Troy
Dam, which happens to be the first barrier
on the River. The fish are stacked in this
area of the river which provides for some
unbelievable fishing! It usually begins
around mid-April and continues through
May. The majority of them are large Trophy
class pre-spawn females. If only two words
could be used to describe the Striper's in the
Hudson River, they would have to be "BIG &
NUMEROUS". The current River record is
56.6 pounds. Most of our customers can't
believe the power that these fish have, and
often catch the biggest fish of their lives. If
your looking to get out of the house after a
long winter of cabin fever for some serious
Fishing action, why not start your season off
with a Trophy Striper! Mid-April & May is the
time and Upstate Charters provides the
knowledge & equipment to get the job done.
We will do our best to provide you an
enjoyable and memorable fishing
experience. Having the right electronics,
tackle & knowledge makes a considerable
difference.
Bait and tackle are provided.
Our current Boat record for the Hudson
River is a 38 pound Striped Bass. During the
season the up to date Boat record will be
posted on the boat, we do not always have
the time to post the most current record to
our website on a daily basis. If you beat the
most current record aboard our Boat,
you will win a
FREE 5 Hour Charter Fishing Trip!
(Limited to one winner per Charter)
Licenses for fishing in the Hudson
River
Depending on the specific location of the
Hudson River fishing activities, and the
specific species being fished for, an angler
may need to have a recreational marine
fishing license, a freshwater fishing license
or both licenses.
* If fishing downstream from the Tappan Zee
Bridge, you are considered to be fishing in
the marine and coastal district and need a
recreational marine fishing license.
* If fishing upstream from the Tappan Zee
Bridge and are fishing for non-migratory fish
(such as largemouth bass, smallmouth bass,
catfish, carp, walleye, and perch) only, you
will need to have a freshwater fishing license.
* If you are fishing upstream from the
Tappan Zee Bridge and are fishing for
"migratory fish from the sea" (such as
striped bass, American shad, hickory shad,
blueback herring or alewife) only, you need
to have a recreational marine fishing license.
* If you are fishing upstream from the
Tappen Zee Bridge and are fishing for
migratory fish from the sea and
non-migratory fish, you will need a
recreational marine fishing license and a
freshwater fishing license.
For detailed information on Hudson River
Fishing license requirements, visit the
NYSDEC Web-site.
We primarily fish the main tidal water in the
Capital District Albany area from the Troy
Dam to the Port of Albany. (Which is
upstream of the Tappen Zee Bridge). As
such, with the above regulations now in
effect, anyone age 16 or older is now
required to purchase the appropriate license
when fishing the Hudson River.
